Making an agreement with putin is one thing, but making him abide by the agreements is more difficult — Kira Rudik
If the collective West hopes to agree with putin on a truce or an end to the war, they must always remember that no one can force russia to abide by these agreements. russia has proven this more than once in its previous wars. This was emphasized by Ukrainian MP, «Golos» party leader Kira Rudik in her column for the Atlantic Council. «The most obvious way to end this war is through negotiations. But there is one «but» and it is not even the price of such agreements for Ukraine, it is whether putin will comply with them. In 2014, after the annexation of Crimea and russia's occupation of parts of eastern Ukraine, we already had the experience of the Minsk agreements. They were continued, and great hopes were placed on them, but they did not bring peace. Moreover, russia built up its forces and launched a full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022», — states the MP. According to Kira Rudik, russia always takes time to rest, learns from previous mistakes, and then invades again. That is why Ukraine should be given all the tools to defeat the aggressor now. «This is the strategy of the kremlin. During the Chechen wars, putin did the same: he sought a truce, drew conclusions, worked on mistakes, gathered his forces, and attacked again. Are there any doubts that he will repeat the same with Ukraine after the next armistice? What guarantees can the world give us that this will not happen? We know that we are capable of winning this war. Still, we need the means: weapons in a certain amount and at a certain time, real and effective pressure on russia, an adequate reaction of the democratic world to new alliances of tyrannic regimes, and most importantly, not to be afraid of escalation or imaginary red lines. The only red line for the kremlin is weakness», — emphasizes the leader of «Golos».
