This is a more political aspect, and a decisive leader is needed, — Kira Rudik on the confiscation of russian assets
The transfer of interest from the frozen assets of the russian federation is only half the way. The confiscation of the body itself requires a political decision and a leader capable of making it. Ukrainian MP, «Golos» party leader Kira Rudik thinks so. «Ukraine has already done a lot on the way to confiscation of the frozen assets of the russian federation: we will receive 50 billion euros as interest from these russian funds, which are still in the Euroclear depository. But this is only half the way. Now the question is how we will proceed from this intermediate success to the confiscation of the very body of assets. This is a more political aspect. We need to find a strong leader who can step forward and say, «I support this idea». Now we hear from certain countries that they are ready to support it. However, among our partners (United Kingdom, Germany, France), there are more cautious statements», — the politician explains. Europe needs to find funds for its own defense, and russia's frozen assets are a valid argument, the MP added. «I think that the next steps will be the use of frozen russian assets as a negotiating position of the European Union with the Trump’s administration about who and how will sponsor the security of Europe. After all, our European allies are now in a situation where they need to get money from somewhere (800-900 billion euros for the security fund)», — the leader of «Golos» summarizes.
