Tyrannies should know that violations of the rules of the world order are severely punished, and renegotiation will not work, — Kira Rudik for The Hill

Donald Trump came to power with a promise to make America great again. And this is impossible without the US returning to the status of a leader and world policeman. At the same time, it is naive and dangerous to hope that russia will fulfill the terms of the armistice. And most importantly, what kind of signal will this be for other tyrannies? This was emphasized by Ukrainian MP and «Golos» party leader Kira Rudik in a column for The Hill.

«The status of a leader and world policeman involves keeping promises and supporting those who fight for democratic values. And when the US president looks at the world map, he should see that what is happening in Ukraine is a precedent. It is a precedent that one country in the 21st century can annex the territory of another, commit all kinds of war crimes, have no punishment for them, and then also make a deal with the world policeman. Is this the signal America wants to send to the world? Is this the signal that dictators and tyrants need to hear? Destroy, kill, torture, demolish, and then we will make a deal — isn't that how Iran, North Korea, russia, and China will see it?», — the politician emphasizes. There is no guarantee that russia will not use this truce to recover, correct its mistakes, and attack again.  «It is possible to force russia and Ukraine into a certain compromise truce, but it is naive to hope that it will be a just and long-lasting peace. Currently, the russian economy is struggling due to sanctions and closed markets. The kremlin needs a pause in order to rearm, draw conclusions from previous mistakes, and go on the offensive with new strength. They have done it more than once in previous wars, such as in Chechnya or Georgia. At the same time, other authoritarian regimes will see that you can get away with invasions of smaller countries and wars. You just need to renegotiate later and pretend that you are going to keep your promises. Is such a world safe? Definitely not. The world needs to see that America is back in the game, the policeman who will not allow democracy and freedom to be insulted is back.
